Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal clarified on Tuesday that there is no reconsideration on supporting FDI from China, despite the Economic Survey’s suggestion. He emphasized that the Survey’s ideas are not binding. India had made government approval mandatory for FDI from neighboring countries, including China, in 2020. Despite minimal FDI from China, bilateral trade grew to USD 118.4 billion in 2023-24, with a trade deficit of USD 85 billion.
